[ç-, zu griechisch cheĩlos »Lippe«] die, -/...'tiden, übergeordnete Bezeichnung für die im Einzelnen sehr unterschiedlich verursachten, vielfältigen Entzündungsformen im Bereich der Lippen, in der häufigsten Form (»aufgesprungene Lippen«, Cheilitis vulgaris) durch äußere Reize wie Kälte, trockenes Klima, Ablecken der Lippen oder durch Kosmetika (Kontaktekzem) hervorgerufen, aber z. B. auch durch Sonneneinstrahlung (Cheilitis actinica) möglich. Mit Schrunden, Schwellungen und schmerzhafter Rötung verbunden ist die Cheilosis, die bei Vitamin-B2-Mangel auftritt.
